Here is the CVR. The orange outside case is aluminum and typically sustains damage like this. The recording media is protected in a secondary case made of Titanium.

Let’s hope we soon get some news about what’s on the CVR.
It’s a shame that the memory chip is missing from the FDR. That is certainly going to be tough to find.
