In the past, governors usually allowed local control of the finances. NYC decided that it would go to preserve and add additional affordable cover. Paterson wants to use $270 million of it to shore up via personal money strapped state budget. Phooey.
State lawmakers say this kind of 4% tax on items under $110 will only be in effect for half a year. After the a couple of months the 4% sales tax will be on items under $55; in April of 2012 the tax will be dropped again but lawmakers are undecided how long that always be in the end result.
I am not a tax accountant myself, but being a former Controller I have adequate tax knowledge to have an intelligent conversation about subject of matter and enquire of the right questions. The same goes for the joy of business legal system. It’s part of the job of a Controller to surround himself with competent advisers in those types.

The title itself, although very important, isn’t enough. It’s as if you said to a person – “You want your teeth riveted? You have to check out a dentist”. That’s glaring. but the range of skill, professionalism, experience and private integrity varies among CPAs as it really does among folks any other profession.
